Three Business Ideas

Three Business Ideas

1.)    Social Media Marketing Company

·         My idea for a social media marketing company is to assist small businesses in their social media marketing skills, and allow them to obtain that audience on social media for their businesses. Social media marketing has now become a big recent interest to a lot of people. I also feel that there is a market just based on experience of more established companies have not gone toward that social media output.

·         My idea would be put more into the concept of smaller businesses. That they would need a separate entity for someone to regulate their social media and consult them in that marketing field.

2.)    Embroidery Company  - Digital Downloading

·         This idea is to have an actual website that allows the customer to download digital embroidery designs. I know that there is a market for it, and I believe that it exists. However I am not entirely sure how to be able to create the foundation for the website.

3.)    Pet Social Media

·         This is actually a spoofy website where pets can have their own social media pages with catchy lingo that brings the audience back. The revenue would come from advertisers on the website. It sounds funny, however I do seeing it as a ridiculous addicting thing. So many people buy and do things for their own pets. It could be something big. I mean they have pet restaurants now…which originally people thought to be ridiculous.

Entrepreneurs are also leaders

Entrepreneurship

It is an interesting way to look at things as an entrepreneurship way of life. Seeing things as a person with a certain view upon the world as an entrepreneur is really interesting. How to choose between the “wanna-bs” and the ones who really have what it takes. There does seem to be a solid line with the people who have the tenacity to really go for it, and others who just come up with the ideas. I mainly felt that it takes more than just a really amazing idea.

Entrepreneurs are also leaders; I found that to be a complete true statement. I also do understand how this is contrary to the popular belief of entrepreneurs being “lone wolfs”. A lot of people look from the outside in of the equation and do see that the entrepreneur seems to take on the task completely unto them. However, a successful person also needs to find resources to help their ideas. If you have a person who doesn’t understand marketing for example, but understands all aspects of accounting, their marketing would be lacking. Therefore, I feel to be successful you need to find other successful networking people to bounce ideas and concepts off from. It is also imperative to employee such people on your board.

Courage is definitely a defining trait when it comes to the entrepreneur. They need to be able to persuade others of their ideas, and to acquire a certain amount of fearlessness. Need to make sure that other people believe it if you believe it yourself.

Guest Speaker - Erik Hanberg

Erik Hanberg - Guest Speaker

Recently, we were introduced the Entrepreneurship lifestyle by our university class guest speaker, Erik Hanberg. He gave many pointers on what to watch and look out for in your experience of becoming an entrepreneur.

Some of the key points I found from the lecture were:

·         Be a starter – seeing something completely through

·         Shipping – did you actually get your product out the door

·         Everyone has ideas – The work is the work to get yours out there

·         Enjoy the work – The Rewards Are Uncertain

A great quote from Thomas Edison, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

He also mentioned two kinds of work. The kind that you Sell Your Time and Sell Something Else, which has the possibility of a long-term value. All pieces discussed created new perspectives for what sort of entrepreneurship lifestyle outlook a person may have. Choosing the lifestyle isn’t an easy task, however it can certainly be a rewarding one. I understood that it is best to just start with an idea, run with it, and find out where it leads you, very intriguing, hope to learn more.

First Post!

Alright, first blog post. I could likely do some fancy HTML, but as a first post, I will save those skills for later.

Blog creation is the first "assignment" in my university entrepreneurship course that I am taking. So as a first post I will be writing about my thoughts on a documentary film that we viewed last week.

The documentary film was called Startup.com which is a 2001 documentary film that films a dot-com start-up, govWorks.com

My initial thought overall of the "concept" of the movie was intriguing. It was rather enjoyable to view the start-up of this company into something super big worth millions of dollars. However, I wish some of the"details" about their business were more open in the film. I felt the film did show the "real life" scenario of a documentary, but I was left wanting to know more about what had happened to the company.

Overall, I enjoyed watching the film, and I felt it gave a lot of "insight" to the stakes an individual makes into actually making a company "feasible" at that "level".

I hope in the upcoming weeks in this quarter, I will continue to learn and change my outlook to how entrepreneurism lifestyle is really lived.

As always, to be continued...
